Noida International Airport, currently under construction in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is all set to make air travel a lot easier on your wallet, offering savings of up to ₹1,500 per flight ticket when compared to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).
It’s all in the difference in the ATF (Aviation Turbine Fuel) weight charge. Uttar Pradesh is charging a mere 1%, while Delhi’s tax is a whopping 25%. This means you could be saving a significant 10 to 15% on your airfare when choosing Noida International Airport, making it the preferred choice for budget-conscious travelers. This impressive cost differential is expected to translate into a substantial 10 to 15% drop in ticket prices across the board. For instance, a plane ticket from Delhi to Lucknow, priced at ₹3,500, can now be secured for an estimated ₹2,800 from Noida International Airport.
The Noida International Airport, currently under construction in Jewar, is set to be fully operational by February of the coming year, with passenger services scheduled to commence in October. The Yamuna Authority has confidently projected that no less than 65 aircraft will take off from Noida International Airport right from its inaugural day. Even during its construction phase, the airport has been attracting major investments in the real estate sector. The runway and air traffic control (ATC) tower at Jewar’s upcoming airport are on track to be ready by March 2024, with the runway already reaching 70% completion, as reported in an official release from October.
Spanning a sprawling 1,334 hectares, the Jewar airport is poised to be among India’s largest airports once its six proposed runways are in operation. The foundation stone for this monumental project was laid by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 25, 2021.
Noida’s growth as an industrial and technology hub has received a major boost from the airport’s development. Companies like HCL, Tech Mahindra, and Microsoft have already set up shop in the region. Microsoft, in particular, has plans to create 3,000 jobs and invest a significant ₹1,800 crore, as announced by officials of the UP government led by CM Yogi Adityanath. And the list of investors keeps growing, with Samsung, Dixon, LG, Oppo, Vivo, Lava, and Optiemus among the phone and white goods manufacturers that have already made investments in the region, with further expansion plans in the works.
