Goa-distilled Kadamba whisky wins best Indian single malt award

Kadamba, a distinguished single-malt whisky hailing from Goa, India has clinched the title of the "Best Indian Single-Malt Whisky" at the Icons of Whisky awards, presented by the Whisky Magazine in the UK, according to reports. This triumph at the international stage marks a significant milestone for Kadamba Whisky, elevating it to the global whisky brands such as Suntory, Red Breast, JP Wiser, and Johnny Walker.

The winning expression, Kadamba's Signature Expression, is a double-distilled whisky that is aged in a blend of bourbon, sherry and virgin American oak casks, resulting in a complex and full-bodied flavour profile. CNBCTV18.com couldn't independently verify the report.

Dr Mohan Krishna, the founder of the Cheers Group that manufactures the whisky, was quoted by Hospibuz.com as saying, "Despite winning numerous honours for our whiskies, we soared to great new heights at the most important whisky awards worldwide, symbolising the quality of our spirit in the ultra-premium Single-malt sector. We thank the jury for this esteemed award."

Single malt Indri-Trini is only Indian brand to rank on Best Whiskeys to Drink in 2024 list

Ashwin Balivada, CEO of Cheers group, hailed the awards as a confirmation of Kadamba's exceptional eminence and appeal. He remarked, "To be presented with such significant wins at the competitions emphasises the exceptional eminence and appeal of our whiskeys, showcasing their distinction. It is an honour and an additional stamp of approval for our brand Kadamba," the food and drinks and hospitality portal reported.

The World Whiskies Awards, renowned as one of the world's most important whisky competitions, features blind tastings of approximately 6,000 whiskies from the world's top 60 distilleries.

Kadamba's vintage single malt whisky is a rare find, produced in limited quantities to maintain its exclusivity and exceptional quality. Priced at ₹2,200 for a 750ml bottle, the whisky is presented in a 3D cut-glass effect decanter, making it a collector’s item. Its availability is limited to select wine stores and high-end bars in Goa.
