Ganesh Chaturthi is an important festival which is celebrated for 10 days in the state of
Maharashtra. Along with Lord Ganesha, who is the Hindu god of wisdom and prosperity, his parents – Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati – are also worshipped during this festival.
As per the Hindu calendar, the festivities of
Ganesh Chaturthi begin on the fourth day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. This year the celebrations will begin on September 19.
