Dussehra is an important festival for Hindus and it is marked by grand celebrations across India. This year, Navratri is observed from October 15 to October 23, with Dussehra falling on October 24. It is believed that Goddess Durga achieved victory over the demon Mahishasura on Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami. This day is celebrated as the victory of good over evil.
According to mythology, Dussehra also marks Lord Ram's victory against the demon King Ravana.
The festival symbolises the triumph of good over evil. Also, the tradition of burning the statue of Ravan on this occasion implies that we should ignite the evil within us and start our lives afresh.
