Amid the rise of generative artificial intelligence, YouTube on Tuesday (November 14) announced an update to its policy aimed at combating misinformation through this emerging technology. The video-sharing platform will now label content created using AI.
"In the coming months, we'll introduce updates to inform viewers when the content they're seeing is synthetic. Specifically, creators will be required to disclose if they've created altered or synthetic content that appears realistic, including the use of AI tools," stated YouTube Vice Presidents of Product Management, Jennifer Flannery O’Connor and Emily Moxley, in a blog post.
For instance, videos that "realistically depict an event that never happened or show someone saying or doing something they didn’t actually do" will be subject to this disclosure requirement.
