Instagram is now letting users save reels from all public accounts to their camera rolls, according to Adam Mosseri.
The feature was first announced in June with availability only in the US. On Thursday, the Instagram head shared on his Broadcast Channel that it is now available globally. Any reel downloaded will include a watermark with the creator’s Instagram handle.
To download a reel that you like, tap on the share button and select download from the menu.
If you have a public account, then the option to let others download your reels is selected by default in the settings. However, if you think this is a privacy concern, you also have the option to toggle it off.
To do so, go to your profile and select the hamburger in the top right corner. Under Settings and Privacy, select Privacy and then tap on Reels and Remixes. When you the “Allow people to download your reels” option, you can toggle that off and people will not be able to save your reels.

Instagram users under the age of 18, the default setting for downloading reels is off but can be turned on at any time.
Reels that are ineligible for download can still be saved in the app for later use. This would be most useful for users who have posted reels from private accounts or who have not allowed downloads for their reels.
Additionally, the original audio from a reel is only eligible to be included in a downloaded reel if the original reel containing that specific audio is available.
Instagram is also reportedly testing a new feature, which will allow users to react and respond to notes in DMs using audio, photos, video, gifs, and stickers.
