In an exclusive conversation with CNBC-TV18, TRAI Chairman PD Vaghela said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds both — tremendous opportunities and grave threats. But he noted that despite the threats, the technology cannot be shunned.
His comments come in the backdrop of TRAI issuing detailed recommendations on a regulatory framework for AI. In July, the TRAI had recommended an independent regulator, dedicated to AI.
PD Vaghela argued that there is a need for a risk-based mechanism. Under this mechanism, he said that potential harms and risks to national security, society or economy can be identified. He said that regulations can be developed, based on these identifiable risks posed.
