The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell has officially lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against the Facebook page named Hurma and the gaming website Skyward Aviator Quest in connection with the Sachin Tendulkar morphed video incident. The FIR invokes charges under IPC 500 (defamation) and Section 66(A) of the IT Act (Punishment for sending offensive messages through communication service, etc.).
The incident unfolded when a video began circulating on social media, visibly manipulated to portray Tendulkar endorsing the gaming platform Skyward Aviator Quest and promoting its potential for financial gains.
The manipulated content included a voice-over, superimposed onto an old interview clip of Tendulkar, where the impersonated voice falsely asserted that Sachin's daughter, Sara Tendulkar, actively participates in the game, earning a daily income of ₹ 180,000.
On January 15th, Sachin Tendulkar
addressed the situation on X (previously known as Twitter), denouncing the videos as fake and expressing concern over the widespread misuse of technology. He urged the public to report such deceptive content in large numbers and called for social media platforms to be vigilant and responsive to complaints.
Tendulkar emphasised the need for swift action to curb the dissemination of misinformation and deepfakes.
