Apple is reportedly investigating an issue on some Apple Watch models where the display brightness briefly flickers or “pulses” when the Always On Display is turned on, as per an internal service memo shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers.
According to MacRumors, the memo does not specify which Apple Watch models are affected, however, the problem appears to be most frequent on last month's
Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models.
Customers have complained about this issue on the MacRumors Forums, Reddit, and the Apple Support Community website. The problem appears to be present in all versions of watchOS 10, including the most recent 10.0.2 release.
The report added that Apple has advised service providers to not repair the affected but ask customers to keep their Apple Watch software up to date instead, suggesting that the tech giant will eventually come up with a solution through a watchOS update.
“It's unclear if Apple has addressed the issue in watchOS 10.1, which is expected to be released to the public next week,” MacRumors added.
As a temporary workaround, customers can disable the Always On mode in the Settings app under Display & Brightness > Always On.
According to the memo, Apple is also looking into a problem in which complications such as Activity rings on a watch face "temporarily turn pink." Another issue that has been raised by certain customers online in recent weeks.
