Advertiser exodus on Twitter over antisemitism, Musk says will file a 'thermonuclear lawsuit'

Elon Musk on Saturday announced that he will be suing Media Matters of America, a nonprofit group for a report they published on Wednesday, that has led to a massive advertising exodus on X, formerly known as Twitter, including companies like Apple and Disney pausing their ads.

In a tweet, Musk said, "The split second court opens on Monday, X Corp will be filing a thermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters and ALL those who colluded in this fraudulent attack on our company."

In the same tweet, the note attached accepts that of the nine posts highlighted by the report to be in violation, one of them was against Twitter's policies and should have been taken down but the other eight were not. Musk also said that the group has said that the report has "completely misrepresented the real user experience of the platform, in an attempt to undermine freedom of speech and mislead advertisers."

This comes after Disney, Apple, Oracle, Lionsgate, IBM and Warner Bros paused their online advertisement campaigns on the microblogging platform after the Media Matters' report highlighted their ads being displayed next to "content that touts Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party."

To worsen the case further came Musk's tweet saying, "Premium+ also has no ads in your timeline. Many of the largest advertisers are the greatest oppressors of your right to free speech."

Twitter's chief executive, Linda Yaccarino in a note to employees on Thursday said "X is a platform for everyone" and that "discrimination by everyone should STOP across the board."

She said the company had been clear about its work to fight antisemitism and discrimination. She, later, shared a similar message on X.
