The 19-year-old Coco Gauff, becomes the youngest American to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999 as she defeated Aryna Sabalenka. Gauff sealed the victory by 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 however Sabalenka will be No. 1 in the WTA rankings for the first time on Monday as per revised stats.
"Honestly, I feel like probably this French Open is honestly where it changed. Because I felt pressure to back up the final, and I obviously didn't. So I was, like, Okay, well, I've got to reset. Then Wimbledon happened, and that was a tough, tough loss, because I thought I was playing good tennis leading up to that. Today wasn't really a change in the match mentality. I felt like I was playing as good as I could in the moment. She's a tough power player, it keeps you, you're always playing on your back foot honestly against her. I was just trying my best. But there was nothing, like, I think the momentum did shift a little bit in that when I passed her on the backhand crosscourt pass and I got the crowd involved, after that I just felt like I knew I was coming home with this (trophy)", said Gauff.

"That's why probably I'm not super depressed right now. I'm definitely going to be,” Sabalenka said. "I'm definitely going for a drink tonight — if I'm allowed to say that.” Sabalenka learned in 2023 to handle the nerves and negative thoughts that sometimes plagued her in the biggest tournaments earlier in her career, showing how far she had come by rallying from a set and 5-3 down to beat Madison Keys in the semifinals Thursday.
