"What a start! Under the lights maybe the ball is doing a bit but this is high-quality bowling from Bumrah and Shami. But what a strange innings from Stokes!" cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote on X formerly known as Twitter.

Skipper Rohit Sharma's half-century and Suryakumar Yadav's (49) useful contribution helped India labour to 229 for nine in their World Cup match against England here on Sunday. Opener Rohit scored a 101ball 87, while Surya struck a 47ball 49. Shubman Gill (9), Virat Kohli (0), Shreyas Iyer (4) and KL Rahul (39) failed to score big.
English bowlers put Indian batters under pressure very early in the match as opener Shubman Gill and star batter Virat Kohli were dismissed cheaply inside the powerplay, While Gill was clean bowled by Chris Woakes on 9, Kohli handed and easy catch to Ben Stokes off the bowling of David Willey and walked back without opening his account. It was for the first time in his career that Kohli was dismissed on duck in a World Cup match.
