PM Narendra Modi speaking at News18's Rising Bharat Summit on Wednesday, March 20, targetted the erstwhile Congress-led Union Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. He mentioned how the functioning of investigating agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has transformed drastically in the last 10 years under the Modi government.
Blaming the erstwhile government for defending scams, PM Modi stressed that corruption was a topic of concern for every Indian household in the period before 2014. "10 years ago people asked why ED doesn't question powerful people, now those powerful people are asking why ED is questioning them, that's the change our government has brought," says PM Modi.
He also highlighted how government facilities have evolved under the current regime, which has made most of the government facilities faceless by making them available online.
Taking a jibe at the government headed by former PM Manmohan Singh, PM Modi said, "The corruption flourished more then because government offices turned into power centers instead of service centers. Because of this, people had to make multiple visits to government offices."
Highlighting the ‘Trishakti’ of JanDhan, Aadhaar and mobile, Modi claimed that the BJP government transferred ₹34 lakh crore in the accounts of beneficiaries. During his address at the Rising Bharat Summit, he targetted Congress and the Trinamool Congress for corruption by their MPs and ministers.
He also spoke extensively about the central government's schemes, fighting terrorism, eradicating poverty, reforms, and a roadmap for the next 25 years, among other national issues.
