Some of the malls in Delhi-NCR show a healthy sign of recovery but with all social distancing and safety precautions being strictly adhered to.
2. Luxury and beauty segments too are doing well and driving sales at malls in Delhi-NCR.
3. Some are preferring going to malls to shop for festival essentials but in comparison to local and high street markets, the demand for festival essentials is less in malls.
4. Yogeshwar Sharma, ED & CEO, Select CITYWALK Mall in Saket, New Delhi, says, “Footfalls are slowly coming back. The mall is getting around 30,000 footfalls on weekends. Categories such as beauty, apparel etc are doing well but categories like formal shoes, formal clothing and entertainment areas such as cinema and gyms are yet to see footfalls.”
5. Not just shoppers, as business picks up, brands too are keen to launch new stores and collections. (Location—DLF Avenue, saket)
6. (Location: DLF Avenue, Saket, New Delhi) Muckth Dograa, Centre head, DLF Avenue, Saket, says “We are seeing resurgence of footfalls. Now even new brands are opening new stores. We opened Uniqlo in Feb and now in last one month, we have opened new stores of Go Sport, Desiqual, etc. Cinema's are yet to pick up.”
7. (Location: Mall of India, Noida) : As the economy recovers and consumers return, retailers and mall owners are hopeful of a good festive season. However for cinemas, the outlook remains grim as most shows continue to run to empty. At DLF Mall of India, the last among its peers to open up, in line with the market trajectory this mall has seen an influx of shoppers and interestingly the food and beverage section has not done badly either despite the restrictions on seating.
8. (Location: Mall of India, Noida): Manish Mehrotra, Centre head DLF Mall of India, Noida says, “About 60% of pre-covid level footfalls are visible at malls because of the retail and F&B outlets. People are now ready to shop & dine in both. Groups of people are coming, families are coming. We expect footfalls to become better and better.”
9. (Location: Select CITYWALK Mall, Saket, New Delhi) Even as cinemas are yet to report healthy footfalls, malls are now confident that the return of the shoppers is not for revenge buying instead it is an attempt at normalcy after a long hibernation. People are coming to open areas such as food courts to get back to normalcy.
10. (Location: Select CITYWALK Mall, Saket, New Delhi) With precautions in place, people are making limited visits to malls, even if it means taking their kids along as they feel it is important for kids as well to step out of the house to ensure their mental health.
