NHAI has removed Paytm FASTag from its list of authorised FASTags due to recent regulatory actions against Paytm Payments Banks Ltd (PPBL) by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
This exclusion means Paytm FASTag users risk facing issues at toll plazas.
Users cannot port Paytm Payments Bank FASTag nor is the credit balance transfer feature available in the FASTag product.
Therefore, they will have to deactivate the old FASTag issued by Paytm Payments Bank and request the bank for a refund.
Further, they can switch to other bank.
Users can follow these to deactivate the existing Paytm Payments Bank FAStag: Log in to the FASTag Paytm Portal using their user ID, wallet ID, and password and navigate to 'Help & Support' and select the option for closing the FASTag.
Then, users can follow the subsequent steps for verification to deactivate the Paytm Payments Bank FASTag.
Failure to switch to FASTags offered by other banks before the deadline could result in potential fines or delays in journeys at toll plazas on national highways.
Statistics indicate that a significant portion of FASTag users in India, around 30%, utilise Paytm.
As of January 2024, there were approximately 6.4 crore FASTag users in the country.
For Paytm Payments Bank users, checking FASTag balance is a straightforward process through the Paytm app.
Users can open the Paytm app on mobile device and navigate to the "Pay Bills" tab available on the app.
Further, they can select the "FASTag" option under the bills tab and enter the vehicle registration number accurately.
Then, they can click on the "View Balance" button to access the FASTag balance.
