Rupee dives 26 paise to close at 76.68 against US dollar; yields decline to 7.06%

the rupee opened lower at 76.58 against the American currency and finally settled for the day at 76.68, down 26 paise over its previous close. The fall in yields is on the back of the MPC Minutes released on Friday, which indicated a slower hike in rates.

The bond yields on Monday declined 10 basis points to 7.60 percent. The yields are even below the level seen on monetary policy day when the RBI announced a change from accommodation to withdrawal of accommodation.
The fall in yields is on the back of the MPC Minutes released on Friday, which indicated a slower hike in rates. State loan auctions continue to be below market expectations as well leading to a sharp short-covering rally in bonds.
However, the rupee has fallen to 7-week lows, triggered by global strength in the dollar index. The rupee declined 26 paise to close at 76.68 against the US dollar tracking a strong greenback overseas and a lacklustre trend in the domestic equity markets.
