With the
festival of colours approaching soon, most of us are beaming with joy and have started preparing to immerse ourselves in the colourful festivities. However, amid the fun, we tend to forget the negative impact the chemicals used in colours can have on our skin. To ensure that these chemicals do not wreak havoc on your skin, take these pre-
Holi precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration.
Hydration is the key
First and foremost, keep sipping water throughout the day; it is the most crucial step towards your skin and hair care journey. Before, during and post- Holi, drink plenty of water to keep your skin and hair healthy as it flushes out toxins from the colours. This keeps you going without any consequences of colours on your health.
Keep applying moisturiser and sunscreen
Make it a practice to keep your skin prepped with moisturiser and sunscreen. Since Holi colours can dry out your skin, apply a generous layer of moisturiser followed by sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30. Pay extra attention to your neck, arms and face as they are exposed. Since the celebration generally takes outdoors, it is important to shield your skin and nothing works well than sunscreen and moisturiser.
Oil up to fight every challenge
Before going out to play Holi with your loved ones, do not forget to add a protective barrier to your skin and hair. All you need to do is apply coconut oil, or almond oil to your scalp and body. Since oil acts as a natural resistance to colour on skin and hair, it makes it easier for people to remove colours later. Meanwhile, do not forget to apply another layer of oil before washing your hair to nourish your scalp and wash the remaining colour.
Choose natural colours
If possible, use natural colours, herbal colours to be specific, as they are made from flowers, vegetables, and other organic materials. These colours are less likely to cause skin allergies or irritation.
Post-Holi hair care is a must
Pamper yourself to some extra care post-Holi by using a hair mask or deep conditioning. Treating your hair to some extra care routine post-Holi will help restore moisture and nourishment. Opt for a hot oil massage to rejuvenate the scalp and hair.
