COVID 2nd wave: Concerned about possibility of another lockdown, says Rajiv Bajaj

Rajiv Bajaj, the managing director of Bajaj Auto on Monday said that he is very concerned and anxious about the possibility of another lockdown in view of the ongoing COVID-19 cases surge.

"The maximum incremental mortality is only 2 percent due to COVID vs pre-COVID. Hard lockdowns would cause severe disruptions," he said while speaking to CNBC-TV18.

He is afraid that the shortage of medical infrastructure could be the reason for another lockdown.

Besides, he praised the BMC and other officials for the proactive work they have done.

On auto sales, he said that a change in consumer sentiment is not good for them.

"All two-wheeler makers have reduced domestic sales forecast by 15 percent. Entry-level motorcycle sales in the current year are still tracking below the last year. Two-wheeler manufacturers have reduced their growth forecast by 15 percent. Three-wheelers have seen a very slow recovery. Buyers of commuter bikes are staying away. The industry is pulling out all stops to boost sales when commodity prices are hitting," he said.

He further said that he is very disappointed by the constipated manner in which export incentives are being handled.
