Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty on Thursday, March 14, took oath as the Rajya Sabha MP. Her husband N R Narayana Murthy, and Leader of the House Piyush Goyal were also present. Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar administered the oath.
The 73-year-old former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation is an engineer-turned-philanthropist who is also known for her contribution to Kannada and English literature. She is the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar, the Padma Shri (2006) and the Padma Bhushan (2023).
Murthy started her career as a computer scientist and was the first woman engineer to work with the Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (Telco). She is also a teacher, writer, social worker and former chairperson of Infosys Foundation. She also
provided the seed capital of ₹10,000 to her husband Narayan Murthy to start Infosys.
Her daughter Akshata Murthy is married to British Prime Minister
Rishi Sunak.
