The government is interviewing the short-listed candidates for the post of RBI deputy governor, a position that fell vacant after SS Mundra retired on completion of his three-year term on July 31, 2017.
Sources told CNBC-TV18 that State Bank of India’s B Sriram and PK Gupta, IDBI Bank’s MK Jain and two other top executives from UCO Bank are in the fray.
IAS officers KP Krishnan, Neeraj Gupta and TV Somanathan will be interviewed by the Financial Sector Regulatory Appointment Search Committee (FSRASC) headed by the cabinet secretary.
Credit Suisse’s Ashish Gupta is also in fray for the Deputy Governor post which will draw a fixed salary of Rs 2.25 lakh per month plus allowances.
The central bank has four deputy governors -- two from within the ranks, one commercial banker and one economist -- to head the monetary policy department.
The members of the search committee include the RBI Governor, Financial Services Secretary and three independent members.
