The Producers Guild of India (PGI) has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state of New Jersey, USA. The alliance aims to facilitate the shooting of Indian films in the US state.
The MoU, formalised during Choose New Jersey's economic mission to India in December, was signed between PGI, Choose New Jersey, and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. It will facilitate seamless communication, exchange ideas, and share best practices in film production and promotion.
In a statement, Shibasish Sarkar, the President of the Producers Guild of India, highlighted the evolving landscape of Indian cinema and noted an increase in international productions. He emphasised that today's Indian filmmakers are increasingly open to exploring diverse global locations for their projects. New Jersey, with its diverse landscapes, supportive infrastructure, and attractive incentive programmes, emerges as a compelling destination for Indian filmmakers seeking international shoots, according to Sarkar.
New Jersey's appeal lies not only in its picturesque locations but also in its robust incentive programmes for filmmakers. With tax credits of up to 35% and a conducive filming environment supported by cooperative counties and municipalities, the state offers an ideal setting for film and television production. Additionally, the proximity to the vibrant creative hub of the New York-New Jersey metro area provides access to a rich talent pool and essential support services.
Wesley Mathews, President and CEO of Choose New Jersey, expressed enthusiasm about the burgeoning relationship between India's dynamic film industry and New Jersey's thriving production ecosystem. He emphasised the state's commitment to showcasing its diverse offerings, from scenic locales to a skilled workforce, to Indian filmmakers seeking international shooting locations.
The partnership between PGI and New Jersey aligns with Governor Phil Murphy's efforts to bolster economic ties between New Jersey and India. Tim Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, emphasised that welcoming Indian filmmakers would not only spur job creation but also stimulate economic activity, further solidifying the state's position as a top destination for film production.
