Fighter trailer: Inspired by IAF's Balakote airstrikes, Hrithik Roshan-starrer takes the fight to the sky

The trailer for Siddharth Anand’s aerial action film Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor in the lead, was released on Monday. A three-minute trailer of the masala entertainer gives the viewers an adrenaline rush of patriotic fervour and revolves around the Indian Air Force (IAF) officers.

It features Group Captain Rakesh Jai Singh (Anil Kapoor) setting up a quick response team with his best aviators, including Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania (Hrithik) and Squadron Leader Minal Rathore (Deepika) after the deadliest terror attack on Indian forces in Pulwama -- mirroring a real attack from 2019.

The team is tasked with carrying out retaliatory airstrikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Besides them, the film also features Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, and Talat Aziz.

Whether it is aerial fights or the hand-to-hand fight wherein Hrithik talks about PoK and warns of ‘India occupied Pakistan’, the film's trailer is heavily loaded with several moments receiving much praise from the viewers. Moreover, it gives a beautiful view of the locales where the film was shot.

Fighter is slated to hit the big screen worldwide on January 25, ahead of the 75th Republic Day. On the same date, Siddharth Anand's last film Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, was released last year and minted over ₹1,000 crore at the global box office.

Fighter marks Hrithik’s third collaboration with Anand after Bang Bang and War. This is his first film opposite Deepika on the silver screen.

Before releasing the trailer of Fighter, the makers put out several character posters, a teaser, and two songs -- Sher Khul Gaye and Heer Aasmani.

A behind-the-scenes video was released on Hrithik's 50th birthday recently, showcasing the rigorous physical training the actor went through for the much-awaited film.

In February 2019, a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) suicide bomber attacked a convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), killing around 40 members of the CRPF. Later, India launched a counter-attack, and airstrikes were carried out in the Balakot region in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on February 26, targeting several camps of the terrorist organisation.
