IT services giant Wipro’s total headcount declined for the fifth consecutive quarter by 4,473 employees in the October to December 2023 period, the firm’s quarterly results showed on January 12.
This takes the total bench strength at the company to 240,234 as compared to 244,707 at the end of the September 2023 ended quarter.
However, the attrition level continued to ease and came down to 14.2% quarter to a 10-quarter low for the third quarter of the financial year.
The trend at Wipro is similar to that of its peers
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and
Infosys where the headcount slipped by 5,680 and 6,101 employees, respectively.
Wipro CEO Thierry Delaporte pointed out that the firm booked 14 deals in the over $30 million category. He asserted that the firm has consistently invested in its people and processes over the last several quarters and the investments are paying off.
Wipro has also just closed the promotion cycle and will make announcements soon, he said, adding that return to office more regularly after a few years of remote work has definitely helped increase efficiency.
The CEO also highlighted that the company is preparing its workforce for the future with about 200,000 employees having being trained on AI 360.
"We are accelerating GenAI adoption internally; this is resulting in productivity improvement across the board.
We’re starting to see some healthy indicators for growth," he said at the press conference following the release of the results.
Meanwhile,
Wipro's revenue for the December quarter in rupee terms stood at ₹22,141 crore compared to ₹22,395.8 crore in the September quarter. The figure was marginally higher than the CNBC-TV18 poll of ₹21,989 crore.
