Schools in Delhi, Punjab and UP get extended winter break amid cold wave

Due to the cold weather conditions and heavy rainfall in the country, several state and district administrations have extended the school holidays.

As the weather conditions have been intensifying across the country, state governments and district administrations in Delhi, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh have extended the winter vacations of schools.

The Delhi administration decided to extend the winter vacation till January 12, Friday, which was previously supposed to conclude on Saturday, January 6. The Education Minister of Delhi ordered a five-day extension for the students in Nursery to Class 5.

In Uttar Pradesh, the district Basic Education Officer of Gautam Buddh Nagar has passed orders for all the schools in Noida and Greater Noida to follow holidays for the students up to Class 8 till January 14. On the other hand, the district administration of Lucknow has also declared the closure of all classes up to Class 8 until January 8. Meanwhile, the school will remain open for students who are in Classes from 9 to 12.

Additionally, the Chandigarh administration, on Sunday, also announced all the schools to follow the winter holidays till January 14 for the students up to Class 8. While the timings of the students from Class 9 to 12 have been changed to – 10 am to 3 pm.

The state government of Haryana has also extended winter break till January 15. The state has been observing winter holidays in school since January 1. Additionally, the state government of Rajasthan has extended the winter break on Friday till January 13. Following the extension, all the private and government schools in Rajasthan will reopen on January 15.

Besides the extreme cold weather conditions in the country, there are some places wherein the light to heavy rainfall has been hampering day-to-day life. In Tamil Nadu, different regions and districts have announced the closure of various schools, colleges, and other educational institutions.

According to the officials, the districts including Nagapattinam, Kilvelur Taluk, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Ranipet, Vellore, and Tiruvannamala have declared holidays for the schools today.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted rainfall in Tamil Nadu for the next seven days, as reported by the news agency ANI.
