India's July unemployment rate lowest in six months: CMIE data

The unemployment rate has shrunk to 6.8 percent in July, as compared to 7.8 percent in June, data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) on Monday showed. The July jobless rate is the lowest since January when it was 6.5 percent.

India’s overall unemployment rate fell to its lowest in six months in July with a sharp decline in jobless rate in rural areas as agriculture activity picked up during monsoon.
The unemployment rate has shrunk to 6.8 percent in July, as compared to 7.8 percent in June, data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) on Monday showed. The July jobless rate is the lowest since January when it was 6.5 percent. In the year-ago period, the unemployment rate was at 7 percent.
Rural India's unemployment rate witnessed a sharp decline in July to 6.14 percent, the lowest in 6 months, and much lower than the jobless rate in urban areas which climbed to 8.21 percent. The unemployment rate in rural and urban India was 8.03 percent and 7.30 percent, respectively, last month.
