Bajaj Group announced an initiative under its flagship employability programme, Bajaj Beyond, on Friday, March 22. The conglomerate pledges to invest ₹5,000 crore over the next five years to train an estimated 20 million individuals.
The announcement comes as part of Bajaj Group's commitment to fostering sustainable development and addressing the evolving needs of the workforce. Bajaj Beyond, a brand identity for its flagship employability initiative, aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in the rapidly changing job market landscape.
Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto, emphasised the importance of timely transitions in his statement. He drew parallels between the company's past transitions, from scooters to bikes and domestic to export markets, and its current shift towards new energy vehicles. Bajaj highlighted the inspiration drawn from Honda Motor Co., admiring their founder's vision of nurturing talent to fulfil dreams.
Bajaj stressed the significance of skills in driving societal change, emphasising that merely making claims about job creation is insufficient. He echoed the sentiments of Mahatma Gandhi and Jamnalal Bajaj, advocating for constructive social reform as the essence of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Sanjiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv, shed light on the target demographic of the skilling initiative. He noted that 66% of the individuals being trained are first-generation graduates, predominantly hailing from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Moreover, Bajaj highlighted the substantial representation of women in the programme, with 70% of trainees being female. Many of these women reported significant increases in household income, empowering them to have a greater voice within their families, he noted.
