Dismissing apprehensions about hyper-competitive bidding in the power transmission sector from FY21 to FY23, the Power Ministry has informed the Parliament that transmission projects are generally awarded for implementation through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route, which was introduced to bring competition in development of transmission infrastructure in India.
30 power transmission projects were awarded under the TBCB route from FY21 to FY23, while 90 transmission projects under Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) were awarded on a nomination basis (under Regulated Tariff Mechanism (RTM)) during that period.
Under the TBCB route, 16 projects were awarded to the Power Grid Corporation of India, three were awarded to renew transmission ventures, while two each were awarded to Sterlite Grid, Adani Transmission and Adani Energy Solutions.
