Budget 2021: 9.5% deficit higher than expected but higher health & infra spend is encouraging, says William Foster

In an interview to CNBC-TV18, William Foster of Moody's Investors Service, Sangita Reddy, joint MD of Apollo Hospitals, and Rathin Roy, MD, Overseas Development Institute, shared their views on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget 2021 and gave their outlook going ahead.

In an interview to CNBC-TV18, William Foster of Moody's Investors Service, Sangita Reddy, joint MD of Apollo Hospitals, and Rathin Roy, MD, Overseas Development Institute, shared their views on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget 2021 and gave their outlook going ahead.
Foster said that he was expecting large deficits all over the world but 9.5 percent deficit was a little more than expected. However, he said that higher health and infra spending was encouraging.
Roy said that this is the first time that the government has provided a transparent Budget. He also said that the consequence of failure in achieving disinvestment target has been on revenue side.
