The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has launched a National Training Campaign named "Vyapar Aapke Dwar" to train India's business community in the optimum use of social media for business purposes.
The country-wide drive is being conducted in association with Meta, where qualified trainers from the company are imparting training to traders over better usage of Facebook,
Instagram, WhatsApp & reels to ensure growth in their businesses.
While a traders' workshop on social commerce was held in New Delhi with leaders of over 200 trade bodies of Delhi, CAIT plans to organise 250 such workshops across India.
Describing social commerce as the next destination of retail trade in India, CAIT has pegged the current yearly turnover of social commerce at $8 billion in India, estimating it to reach $85 billion by 2030.
CAIT's estimates state that India currently has a user base of over 450 million on social media, including 75 crore users on
WhatsApp, 37 crore users on Facebook & 33 crore users on Instagram.
The organisation claims that social commerce will emerge as a much larger digital trade medium than
e-commerce. CAIT asserts that social commerce is a preferred trade medium due to simplified shopping, scalable trust-building, smart curation, tools for sellers, and the availability of new consumer segments.
CAIT's estimates indicate that 77% of consumers choose shopping enterprises that provide a great social media experience, and 80% of social media marketers think that customers will purchase goods more often directly from social apps than from the platforms of brands or third-party e-commerce portals.
The traders' body suggests that the sale and purchase of goods & services via social media platforms are major drivers of social commerce due to its wider reach and strong user base.
