Zomato has introduced a new feature on its app which will allow the customers to offer tips to the chef and kitchen staff of the restaurants. The introduction of 'tips for the kitchen staff' is an initiative to show appreciation for the food from the restaurant, according to Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal.
Sharing the official blog on the new feature, Goyal tweeted, “I'm super proud to introduce this new feature on the Zomato app - 'Tips for Kitchen Staff'. Now, you can show your appreciation for the chef and staff who helped cook your meal - and goes without saying, 100 percent of the tip amount goes to them.”

Zomato launched the feature allowing customers to add a tip for the delivery executives in June 2018.
Following Goyal’s tweet, several users appreciated the move while many seemed concerned over various other issues related to Zomato services. A user wrote, “This is such an amazing addition, Zomato! Finally, a great gesture to appreciate the true heroes behind the delicious food. Hats off to the Kitchen Staff!”
Another added, “Indeed a great feature. The kitchen staff gets that additional motivation to keep working and see that their efforts are being recognised.”

Another user said, “We all appreciate and are thankful to all those who provide us their services, but please don't introduce this tipping culture in India. The US is already fed-up with this.”
As per a blog on Zomato, the company explained how tipping the chef and kitchen staff will work. It said that the platform will provide a range from 3 percent to 10 percent of the item value, out of which the customer can choose and pay a suitable percentage of the amount as the tip.
In addition to that, the blog also stated that the entire tip received from the customer will be credited to the restaurant and will be distributed among the kitchen staff. It also clarified that Zomato will not hold any commission out of the tip amount and it will be completely sent to the restaurant. The blog also assured that the restaurant management will sign a pledge to distribute the complete amount among the staff.
