HCLTech's CEO, C Vijayakumar, shared insights into the company's stellar performance in the latest quarter. Describing it as a 'sixer of a quarter,' Vijayakumar highlighted the remarkable growth fuelled by global deals across key regions, including the US, Germany, and Europe.
He also painted a positive outlook for HCLTech's future, aligning the company's strategies with the transformative role of generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI). According to Vijayakumar, harnessing the potential of young talent is key to driving groundbreaking work in Gen-AI, reducing the dependency on seasoned professionals.

World Economic Forum summit in Davos, Switzerland.
He underscored the need for investing in entry-level engineering talent, citing automation and the increasing role of Gen-AI. The company has implemented programs like the 'aspirational learning journey' to enhance the skills of fresh engineers. "We've hired a few PhDs from some of the universities and they're just doing an outstanding job. So the I think the pyramid will get reshaped a lot, as we kind of evolve, and the entry level engineering talent, we will need to invest a lot more in making them better equipped," he said.
"There is lots of regular work, monitoring some of the routine work, I think a lot of that is already got automated through just machine learning and other things. So Gen-AI will make it even more automated. So we need to make sure the entry talent is able to do a much higher level of work. So the investment in training, mentoring, we've created something called aspirational learning journey, where a fresh engineer can look at where he wants to be, and we can kind of curate a set of programs, which will get him there. So I think that's the kind of programs we need to invest in, to really develop the talent," he added.
Vijayakumar also addressed the company's proactive measures to attract top talent. "We increased the entry-level salaries by about 30%," he said, recognising the importance of competitive compensation in the talent acquisition landscape.
Despite automation trends, HCLTech reported a net headcount growth of over 3,000 in the last quarter, hiring 3,800 freshers. Vijayakumar expressed confidence in continued headcount expansion, citing the robust demand for IT services in the mid to long term. "The demand for IT services will continue to be very robust," he stated, underscoring technology's pervasive role across industries.
