Noida International Airport to be open by end of 2024, says CEO

If all goes well, the Noida International Airport in Jewar will be thrown open by the end of 2024. Christoph Schnellmann, chief executive officer of the Noida International Airport, confirmed the same and said the project was on schedule. He said once operational, the airport would provide a capacity of over 12 million passengers annually. He said the terminal design would showcase the rich heritage of India.

Schnellmann also expressed his confidence to be able to deliver Airport's infrastructure with the sanctioned funding of Rs 5730 crore.

According to him, trials will begin in four to six months before handing it over. "We will begin with simple trials & test of individual systems." he said.

Expressing his exictment about potential aboutMaintenance, Repair and Overhauling (MRO) activities after the completion of project, he said that the airport has dedicated 40 acres of space for it saying," We are convinced there's a need of extra Airport infra." According to him, MRO to grow further in India.

Kiran Jain, the project's chief operating officer, said that the airport’s capacity would grow by over 70 million annually in four development phases.

Elaborating on the upcoming phase-I, Jain said it would have 28 aircraft stands and Terminal 1 with a 12 million annual capacity. According to Jain, the first phase will handle 100,000 touchdowns and take-offs along 250,000 cargo tonnage annually.

Jain added that the airport would have fully digital airport operations. "We aim to develop Noida as a logistics gateway for North India. Currently, we are working on 1,300 hectares. However, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to expand the Noida International Airport to over 5,000 hectares."

On February 28 this year, the Airports Authority of India signed an agreement for providing air traffic services in Jewar, Noida.

Tata Projects Ltd was selected in March for undertaking the engineering, procurement, and construction of the Noida International Airport. Tata Projects is constructing terminals, runways, airside infrastructure, landside facilities, and other ancillary buildings at the under-construction airport.

The first phase of the airport is on track to be delivered within three years of the commencement of the concession period, which commenced in October last year.
