DGCA renews Jet Airways' Air Operator's Certificate for one month

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has renewed Jet Airways' Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) for over a month till September 3, 2023, four days after the Jalan-Kalrock consortium appointed an Accountable Manager at the airline.

"DGCA has extended the AOC in respect of Jet Airways for a period up to 03.09.2023 only for the limited purpose of completing the ongoing CIRP," the regulator said.

The Jalan-Kalrock consortium announced the AOC renewal earlier today, calling it a re-validation of the confidence of the Indian Aviation regulator in the revival of Jet Airways. The consortium however did not mention about the expiry date of this AOC.

"Jalan-Kalrock Consortium, the successful resolution applicant of Jet Airways successfully obtained renewal for the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of Jet Airways from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on July 28, 2023, thereby reinforcing its commitment to revive India's most admired airline, Jet Airways," the consortium said in a statement.

Soon, the DGCA clarified that this renewal is only for a limited period and Jet Airways will have to undergo re-certification for issuance of AOC. The airline will also have to demonstrate compliance of all applicable regulatory requirements afresh before commencing flight operations.

Currently, the Jalan-Kalrock consortium has not received Jet Airways' ownership as lenders await payment committed by the JKC in its resolution plan.

Meanwhile, the consortium has been blaming lenders for delaying the implementation of its resolution plan.

Earlier this month, Jet's lenders asked the Supreme Court to allow the liquidation of the grounded carrier, claiming that the resolution plan is unviable. Lenders are not alone seeking liquidation of Jet Airways.

The Jet Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Welfare Associationhas also moved the Supreme Court against JKC's Resolution Plan terming its provisions as illegal.
