The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has announced the postponement of the beginning of international operations at Terminal 2. Originally slated for today, August 31, the launch of international operations has been delayed to ensure a seamless transition for passengers, BIAL said in an official statement on Wednesday.
The decision to delay the commencement of international operations at Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru was made during the final preparedness review. BIAL officials stressed their commitment to providing optimal service and convenience to passengers, citing the need for further coordination and readiness before the transition. As a result, international flights will continue to operate from Terminal 1 until a new transition date is finalised.
“We regret the inconvenience caused by this decision and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work towards creating the best possible travel experience for our passengers,” BIAL said.
It also requested international passengers to liaise with their respective airlines for further information regarding the rescheduled operations. The airport further added, “After consulting all regulatory authorities, BIAL will release a firm date for transition of international operations tomorrow.”

According to an Indian Express report, regulatory agencies withheld approval for the transition due to certain pending terminal operations, including immigration and security scanning procedures.
The delay affects several scheduled inaugural flights, notably the Singapore Airlines flight SQ508/SQ509 between Singapore and Bengaluru, which was set to be the first international service to experience the new terminal.
Additionally, IndiGo's flight 6E1167 to Colombo was slated to become the first Indian carrier to operate international flights from Terminal 2.
Terminal 2, spanning an area of 255,661 square metres, is situated to the eastern side of Terminal 1. Designed to accommodate up to 25 million passengers annually, the terminal boasts state-of-the-art facilities and amenities. The delay notwithstanding, Terminal 2 is anticipated to facilitate 30 to 35 daily international departures, served by 27 airlines, including 2 Indian carriers.
To improve accessibility, a 4.4-kilometer-long access road, called the Terminal Boulevard, was introduced earlier this year. This road connects the departures and arrivals sections of Terminal 2, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted journey for passengers. In addition, complimentary shuttle services are provided between Terminals 1 and 2, enhancing passenger convenience.
