New entrant Akasa Air's Ahmedabad-Delhi flight was hit by a bird on Thursday, aviation regulator DGCA said in a statement.
The regulator added that the plane received some damage and has been declared AOG (Aircraft on ground) for now.
“Today, Akasa B-737-8(Max) aircraft VT-YAF operating flight QP-1333 (Ahmedabad-Delhi) experienced a bird strike during the climb out passing 1900 ft. Post landing at Delhi, Radome damage was observed. Aircraft declared AOG (Aircraft on ground) at Delhi,” it said.
Radomes are large dome-shaped structures that intend to protect flight radars from the weather conditions like rain, snow among others as well from external threats like birds, bullets etc. However, along with providing protection, it allows the electromagnetic signals to be received by the radar without distortion.
Meanwhile, Akasa Air in its press release said," The aircraft landed
safely, and all passengers were deboarded. As a result, the aircraft has been positioned for a detailed inspection. The subsequent flight has been impacted and our customer service team is assisting passengers and arrangements are being made to accommodate their journeys."
