As many as 250 route pairs of Jet Airways at Delhi and Mumbai are likely to have been offered to other domestic carriers for an interim period till July, sources close to the development told CNBC-TV18.
"Around 140 pairs have been offered at Mumbai and another 110 pairs have been put up for transfer for an interim period," one of the sources said, requesting anonymity.
The slots are to be given on an interim basis and will be reviewed once the situation of Jet Airways improves, the sources said.
The civil aviation ministry guidelines allow for the interim transfer of slots for an interim period and give the airline time till the end of the ongoing season to get them back.
Where a series of slots become available out of the historic slots held by an airline for certain temporary reasons the coordinator may reallocate those slots to another airline on an ad hoc basis.
"Slots allocated on ad-hoc basis are not eligible for historic precedence. However, slots requested as a series but initially allocated as ad-hoc, which form a series by the end of the season, may not be eligible for historic precedence," the guidelines from aviation ministry on slot allocation said.
The State Bank of India has also sought clarity from the civil aviation ministry regarding slot transfer as it fears that the slot transfer process will lead to concerns among interested bidders for Jet Airways.
While the ministry is yet to respond, it is given to understand that Jet Airways will have time till the end of the summer schedule, which is October 26, to get the slots back when it re-commences operations.
