Apple has invited media to a March 25 event at the Steve Jobs Theater on its campus in Cupertino, California and the internet was abuzz this week with rumours that the company is likely to launch a new version of AirPods — AirPods 2.
AirPods, which are the wireless earphones offered by Apple, was first introduced in 2016. They are connected to the Apple device via Bluetooth. The AirPods have 24-hour battery life, automatically reduces the volume of the music when the user is speaking and can automatically control the audio and engage the microphone, giving the user the ability to use one or both AirPods.
Apple is also working on a streaming TV service that will include the more than two dozen TV shows and movies that it has in the works, along with access to subscription content from other cable providers, according to news reports.
Here's what we know so far on AirPods 2
AirPods 2 is rumoured to be launched or introduced in the first half of 2019, according to various media reports. The updated version of the AirPods is expected to cancel noise, have built-in health features and wireless charging.
In design, it is expected that the tech major will launch AirPods 2 in black. No other talks on design change are in the news, so far.
The price of the earphones is expected to be more than $159, that is more than the price of AirPods 1.
The new AirPods is also expected to have a hands-free Siri feature, which is when the user just has to say 'Hey Siri' instead of double-tapping the earphone to activate the voice assistant on the Apple device.
According to media reports, the tech major faces a lot of competition from its peers as OnePlus is likely to launch its own set of AirPods for its upcoming OnePlus 7.
Samsung also has its own set of wireless earbuds — Galaxy Buds. However, according to tech reviews, it is not doing so great as compared to Apple's.
Apple fans are eagerly waiting for what's in store in the March 25 event. In its invitation, Apple did not specify the focus of the event and gave a single-line description: "It's show time."
