MP election results 2023 HIGHLIGHTS: BJP clinches 163 seats in landslide win, Congress settles at 66

It was a landlside win for the BJP with 163 seats, Congress at distant second at 66 and Others at 1.

The Congress’ hopes of the Bharat Jodo Yatra paying dividends in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls were dashed on Sunday with the Bharatiya Janata Party winning 17 of the 21 seats from which the Rahul Gandhi-led programme passed. Between November 23 and December 4 last year, the yatra covered 380 kilometres through six districts of MP’s Malwa-Nimar region, namely Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Indore, Ujjain and Agar Malwa, which cumulatively have 21 seats.

In 2018, the BJP had won 14 of these seats, while the Congress emerged victorious on seven. This time, the BJP bettered its tally to 17, reducing the Congress to four seats. The BJP won Burhanpur (Archana Chitnis) and Nepanagar (Manju Dadu) Assembly segments in Burhanpur district. The Burhanpur seat was won in 2018 by Independent candidate Surendra Singh Shera, who was the Congress candidate in 2023.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 48.56% of the votes polled, while its rival Congress won 40.41% of the votes polled. Independents and other parties won 11.03% of the votes polled.

Yashpal Singh Sisodiya lost to Congress’ Vipin Jain by 2,049 votes in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsour.

As many as 12 ministers of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan cabinet, including home minister Narottam Mishra and ministers Arvind Bhadoria, Kamal Patel and Gaurishankar Bisen and eight other ministers lost the elections on Sunday.

BJP’s Devendra Kumar Jain ‘Patte Wale’ defeated KP Singh ‘Kakka Joo’ of the INC by 43,030votes.

BJP’s Jagannath Singh Raghuwanshi defeated Gopal Singh Chauhan of the INC by 21,768 votes.

BJP’s Mahendra Ramsingh Yadav Khatora defeated Baijnath Singh Yadav Dada Ji of the INC by 50,973 votes.

BJP’s Preetam Lodhi defeated Arvind Singh Lodhi of the INC by 21,882 votes.

BJP’s Rakesh Shukla defeated Rahul Singh Bhadouria of the INC by 22,010 votes.

BJP’s Mohan Singh Rathore defeated Lakhan Singh Yadav of the Congress Party by 22,354 votes.

BJP’s Pradeep Agrawal defeated Ghanshyam Singh of the INC by 2,558 votes.

The BJP will win all the 29 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections, the Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

BJP’s Narendra Singh Kushwah defeated Chaudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi of the INC by 14,146 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday retained power in Madhya Pradesh, winning 141 seats, and is leading in 24, as per the latest Election Commission of India figures. The Congress’ plans to wrest power from the BJP were dashed as the grand old party has managed to win just 45 seats and is leading in 19 more. The Bharat Adivasi Party has won 1 seat.

Neeraj Sharma of the Congress lost to the BJP’s Govind Singh Rajput in Surkhi by a slim margin of 2,178 votes.

Madhya Pradesh leader of opposition Govind Singh lost from the Lahar seat in the Bhind district by 12,397 votes against BJP’s Ambrish Sharma. Singh, a Congress leader since 1993, had won from Lahar seven times in a row.

A close associate of senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh, the LoP polled 62,950 votes, while BJP’s Sharma emerged as the winner with 75,347 votes. Of the 230 seats in the state, the BJP has so far won 129 and is leading in 35 constituencies, according to the latest data shared by the Election Commission. The Congress won 38 seats and is ahead in 27, it said.

The BJP on Sunday retained power in Madhya Pradesh, winning 128 seats, and is leading in 36, as per the latest official figures. The Congress’ plans to wrest power from the BJP were shattered as the grand old party has managed to win just 38 seats and is leading in 27 more. Bharat Adivasi Party has bagged one seat.

The Congress’ Arif Masood and Atif Arif Aqueel won the Assembly polls from Bhopal Central and Bhopal North, respectively, in Madhya Pradesh. Another Muslim leader from the Congress, Nafees Mansha, who had contested from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen after being denied a ticket by the grand old party, however, lost from Burhanpur.

Masood defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Dhruv Narayan Sing by a margin of 15891 votes from Bhopal Central, while Aqueel won against the ruling party’s Alok Sharma by 26,987 votes from Bhopal North. In Burhanpur, Mansha garnered 33,853 votes, which was higher than the victory margin of BJP’s Archana Chitnis against her nearest rival from the Congress Thakur Surendra Singh.

Chitnis defeated Singh by 31,171 votes. As per an estimate, Muslims, at 50 lakh, constitute some 7% of MP’s population, and are mainly concentrated in Bhopal and the Malwa region.

BJP’s Gopal Bhargava defeated Congress’ Jyoti Patel by 72800 votes.

Rameshwar Sharma of the BJP has emerged as one of the big hitters. He won Huzur constituency by over 97,910 votes defeating Congress’ Naresh Gyanchandani.

PM Modi says women backed BJP and BJP has worked for the inclusion of women. “Every mother, sister and daughter of the country knows BJP is the biggest guarantee of women empowerment, inclusivity and women safety,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi says people have voted for the ideology of vikas (development), imaandari (loyalty) and sushasan (good governance) and thanked people for voting for the BJP.

BJP’s Chintamani Malviya emerged victorious in Alot defeating Independent candidate Premchandra Guddu and Congress’ Manoj Chawla.

BJP’s Malini Laxmansingh Gaur won Indore-4 with over 69,837 votes defeating PL Raja Mandhwani in Indore-4.

Century for BJP as the party wins 103 seats in Madhya Pradesh. They are leading in 66 constituencies. Congress has emerged winners in 32 seats in Madhya Pradesh and is leading in 29 constituencies. (News18.com)
