Lok Sabha Election 2024 HIGHLIGHTS: NDA to sweep Hindi heartland, says News18 poll

The NDA voteshare is projected at 62%, according to a News18 opinion poll conducted across 518 constituencies, encompassing over 1.2 lakh respondents. The NDA is expected for a clean sweep in Haryana as it is expected to win all the 10 Lok Sabha seats.

In Karnataka, out of the 20 seats declared, 10 sitting MPs have been dropped from their respective seats, including Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, who has been relocated from Udupi Chikkamagaluru to Bengaluru North. The status of former Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde from the Uttara Kannada seat remains undecided as it is yet to be announced.

According to the News18 Mega Opinion Poll, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar tops the list with 32% of respondents expressing dissatisfaction with their sitting MPs, followed closely by Delhi at 31%, Odisha at 30%, Kerala at 29%, Maharashtra at 23%, and Gujarat at 20%. READ MORE

The poll surveyed 1,18,616 eligible voters all over India and found that jobs, inflation, law & order, corruption and religion are the top five factors that determine who they will vote for in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. READ MORE

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, whose Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is passing through Maharashtra, visited party veteran Rohidas Patil at his house here on Wednesday. Gandhi embraced Patil, a former state minister, and asked “how are you Daaji saab,” said a party release.

He inquired about the veteran leader’s health and also facilitated conversation on phone between Sonia Gandhi and Patil ‘s wife Lata, it said.Rohidas Patil’s son Kunal is a two-time MLA from Dhule rural.

LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Wednesday said his party has finalised a sharing formula with the BJP for the Lok Sabha polls. Paswan announced this after a meeting with BJP chief J P Nadda here. As a member of the NDA, today in a meeting with BJP national president J P Nadda ji, we have together finalised the seat sharing in Bihar for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, he said in a post on X. The same will be announced in due course, he added.

Speaking at a programme at Delhi BJP office, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur said that CAA is a law for providing citizenship not taking it away. “Thousands of Dalit families from the neighbouring countries whose two to three generations have passed are waiting for citizenship for years,” Thakur said.

A day after Congress renominated sitting MP Nakul Nath from Chhindwara Lok Sabha constituency, former party MLA Choudhary Gambhir Singh and several other local leaders from the Naths’ home turf joined the ruling BJP on Wednesday.

Singh was the Congress MLA from Chourai in Chhindwara district during 1998-2003.

He and others including district Congress farmers wing president Chand Chouriya, district Congress vice president Satish Mishra and members of the party’s health and medical cell from Gwalior-Chambal region joined the saffron party at its headquarters here, a BJP spokesperson said. (PTI)

The BJP-led government at the Centre will have to pay a heavy price in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a result of rising prices of daily use items, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar said on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters in Nashik, Pawar also said the government’s decisions related to onion export, its “arbitrary policies” on ethanol and sugar industry have created disappointment among the farming community, which will reflect in the upcoming general elections.

“The rising prices of various daily use items, arbitrary policies related to onion, ethanol and sugar industry have upset the farming community in the state. The Union government will have to pay a heavy price for it in the upcoming parliamentary elections,” he said. (PTI)
