'18 parties supporting opposition Vice-President candidate Alva'

BJP MP Sunny Deol, Union minister Sanjay Dhotre among absentees during poll
BJP MP and film actor Sunny Deol and Union Minister Sanjay Dhotre were among those who missed casting their votes in the presidential poll on Monday. While Deol is abroad for medical treatment, Dhotre is in the ICU. Two MPs each from BJP and Shiv Sena, and one each from the BSP, Congress, SP and AIMIM were among those who did not cast their votes during the election. BSP leader Atul Singh who is in jail could not vote. Shiv Sena leaders, Gajanan Kirtikar and Hemant Godse, also did not vote. AIMIM leader Imtiyaz Jaleel also was among the eight who did not vote. Senior leaders such as Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman came in a PPE, while former PM Manmohan Singh and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav came in wheelchairs to cast their votes.

728 of 736 electors cast their votes
As per the latest statement by Rajya Sabha Secretariat, of the total 736 electors- 728 electors cast their votes which consists of 719 MPs & 9 MLAs. Electors' turnout for Presidential polls was 98.91 percent.

Ballet boxes to reach Delhi via road and air, says PC Mody
Assisting returning officers of various states will start arriving with sealed ballot boxes via roads and flights this evening. Out of 736 electors (9 MLAs, 727 MPs) permitted by the Election Commission (EC) to vote in Parliament in the Presidential poll, 730 (721 MPs, 9 MLAs) voted, said Chief Returning Officer PC Mody.
AIUDF alleges cross-voting; Cong snubs claims
Two main opposition parties in Assam engaged in a war of words on Monday over the presidential elections, as the AIUDF alleged that 20 of the 27 MLAs of the Congress voted in favour of NDA nominee Droupadi Murmu, a charge denied by the grand old party. AIUDF MLA Karimuddin Barbhuiya said he had evidence that 20 legislators of the opposition Congress have cross-voted in favour of Murmu. The MLA from Sonai in Cachar district, however, did not produce any evidence to make his point.
Isolation room set up at Delhi Vidhan Sabha for anyone with COVID-19 symptoms
With MLAs casting their votes for the presidential poll in the Delhi Assembly building, arrangements were made on Monday to check for any COVID-19 symptoms among those entering the premises. An isolation room was set up at the entry of Assembly building where anyone found with symptoms of COVID-19 like fever were to be kept and checked for the infection before being allowing to proceed further.

Presidential poll conducted peacefully, 99.18 percent total turnout at Parliament: Official
Chief Returning Officer PC Mody said that the Presidential poll was conducted cordially and peacefully everywhere. The total turnout in the Parliament was 99.18 percent. The ballot boxes would be arriving at the Parliament from across India by evening, he added.

Elections for president, VP are fight about ideology not individual candidates: Ashok Gehlot
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said elections for the president and vice president are a fight about ideology and not individual candidates. After casting cast his vote for the presidential poll, Gehlot said although it is natural that a candidate is welcomed in his home state and people may have sentiments for him, the voting, however, will be based on ideology. NDA's vice presidential candidate West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar is from Rajasthan who is pitted against joint opposition candidate Margaret Alva who has been the former governor of the state.
