Diwali Muhurat Trading 2023 Highlights: Sensex, Nifty 50 begin Samvat 2080 on a strong note; PSUs, IT outperform

• PFC ended as the top gainer on the Nifty Midcap index with gains of 3.3%
• Biocon ended as the second-best Midcap performer with gains of 3.2%
• KPIT Tech ended with gains of 3.1%
• NMDC and JSW Energy ended with gains of over 2% each

• Coal India ended as the top gainer on the Nifty with gains of 2.8%. The stock ended at the highest level in six years.
• UPL was the second best performer on the index, ending with gains of 1.6%.
• Infosys ended with gains of 1.4%.

Nifty Bank is in the green for the last three days, up 0.4% today. The index has been in the green for seven out of the last eight trade sessions.

HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI, Au Small Fnance Bank, are the top contributors towards the index’s upside.

Barring Federal Bank and Axis Bank, all stocks are in the green.

Shares of PFC are in the green for the fifth day today, up 3.1%.

The stock has gained for seven trade sessions out of the last eight trade sessions.

The stock has gained 148.2% this year, so far.

Shares of Welspun Corp are in the green for the last five trade sessions. Today, it is up 8.4%. The stock has also gained for 12 out of the last 13 trade sessions.

The stock has gained 123% this year, so far.

Infosys is the top Nifty IT gainer, up 1.45%.

The index itself is up 0.77%, with all stocks in the index in the green.

The stock has gained 10.4% in the last six months.

It is also the top contributor towards Nifty 50’s upside, contributing 17.4 points.

Shares of MCX are in the green for the second day today, up 3.1%.

The stock has gained 84% this year, so far.

HDFC Bank, Infosys, Reliance, ICICI Bank, TCS are the top contributors towards Nifty 50’s upside.

HDFC Bank is contributing 16.7 points, Infosys 15.8 points, Reliance is contributing 12.8 points, ICICI Bank and TCS are contributing 6.2 and 5.7 points, respectively.

The Nifty Realty index is the top gainer among sectoral indices, up 0.9%.

All 10 stocks in the index are in the green. Swan Energy, Mahindra Lifespace, Sobha, Godrej Properties, and DLF are the top gainers in the index, trading 0.8 to 6.56% higher.

Shares of Medanta are trading nearly 5.8% higher. The stock is up for the fourth day today.

The stock has gained 108.2% this year, so far.

Shares of BSE Ltd are in the green for the second day today, up over 5%. The stock has gained for six out of the last seven trade sessions.

The stock has gained 208.3% this year, so far.

Veteran investor and member of the Bombay Stock Exchange Ramesh Damani believes that while the next 1,000 – 2,000 points on the index are difficult to predict, the next 20% on the index is surely on the higher side and not lower.

“What I have learnt over the last 30 years is to remain invested in high quality businesses and not worry about the volatility that happens. That is a part of the market,” Damani told CNBC-TV18 in an exclusive interaction on the occassion of the Muhurat Trading session for Samvat 2080.

Shares of KPIT Technologies are in the green for the second day today. The top Nifty Midcap gainer is up nearly 3%.

The stock has gained 102.3% this year, so far.

Shares of ONGC are in the green for the second day today, up 1.3%’.

ONGC revenue rose 4% sequentially to ₹35,163 crore, rising from ₹33,814 crore it had recorded in the first quarter of the current financial year. The CNBC-TV18 poll had estimated revenue at ₹36,767 crore.

Shares of Coal India are in the green today, the top Nifty 50 gainer. The stock is up 3.2%

State-owned Coal India Ltd on Friday (November 10) reported a 12.7% year-on-year (YoY) rise in net profit at ₹6,813.5 crore for the second quarter that ended September 30, 2023. The CNBC-TV18 poll had predicted a profit of ₹5,920 crore for the quarter under review.

HDFC Securities believes that while Godrej Industries faces some pressure in the near-term as a standalone business, its consumer products (GCPL) and real estate subsidiaries (Godrej Properties) are doing well and their outlook remains healthy.

“We expect value unlocking due to the split between the brothers and the holding company discount cound narrow too,” the brokerage wrote. It recommends buying Godrej Industries in the ₹555 – ₹624 range for a price target of ₹735 until next Diwali.

Discussing Indian equities in the context of Samvat 2080, Raamdeo Agrawal, Chairman and Co-Founder of Motilal Oswal Financial Services said the market will likely rally going into the general elections as the probability of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not coming back to power is low.

Talking about equity markets in general, the Chairman and Co-Founder of Motilal Oswal Financial Services, said “the era of zero interest rates” is over, and that it was too early to say that US interest rates have peaked.

Kotak Securities believes that Canara Bank reported healthy loan growth of 12% with continued improvement in its asset quality. The lender’s RoE has also improved over the last few quarters due to declining credit costs. Additionally, it is trading at a discount to its other PSU banking peers. It has maintained its buy rating on the stock with a price target of ₹425 until the next Diwali.
