The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is considering making dual front airbags mandatory, sources told CNBC-TV18.

Over the last few years, the ministry has been bringing in several safety norms for two-wheelers as well as passenger vehicles.
If this is mandated, it will immediately increase the cost of entry-level passenger vehicles, especially from the likes of Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Renault, which are expected to see a price hike in the range of Rs 5,000-10,000.
A formal draft notification is expected to be issued in the next few days.
